Regional monitoring network with 300 operating units
Case study
The cumulative expertise and top-quality equipment let R-NOХ implement one of the biggest air quality monitoring projects in the world. The project started in one of the regions in Eastern Europe in 2020.
300 AirNode analyzers have been efficiently functioning in the region in 2024.
Problem
When project elaboration was started, local authorities didn’t have their own regional air quality monitoring system.
Driving forces for authorities to implement changes:
- constantly growing number of industrial enterprises,
- population growth
- increased level of requirements for environmental quality.
Solution
Regional authorities realized integrated approach. It involved reference air monitoring stations and mobile laboratories. The network was augmented with premium air quality monitoring analyzers AirNode. This approach let authorities to receive sufficient and trustworthy data for further decision making.
Measured substances and parameters:
meteorological parameters: temperature, air humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind strength and direction
Outcomes
Implementation of the monitoring network helped authorities to get accurate real-time data on air quality. This data allowed them to understand problem areas and pollution sources in the region, and also to identify several enterprises exceeding regulatory thresholds. Currently, authorities and enterprises are working on improvements.
Benefits for local authorities from the implemented solution:
- Accurate real-time data on air quality for local authorities
- Reduction of air pollution in the region by 17-23%
- Public complaints reduction by 82%
